Google has completed its acquisition of cyber defense, threat intelligence and incident response services company Mandiant, saying this will bolster Google Cloud’s existing security portfolio and help enterprises with every component of the “security lifecycle.”
The deal combines Google Cloud’s existing offering with Mandiant’s cyber threat intelligence and lets Google Cloud customers manage threats, incidents and exposure, according to a Monday (Sept. 12) blog post.
“With the scale of Google’s data processing, novel analytics approaches with [artificial intelligence (AI)] and machine learning, and a focus on eliminating entire classes of threats, Google Cloud and Mandiant will help organizations reinvent security to meet the requirements of our rapidly changing world,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian wrote in the post.
Google Cloud already offers its security customers the ability to take the security telemetry from their multicloud and on-premise environments, analyze it and retain it. Now, with the addition of Mandiant Threat Intelligence, it will also give these customers actionable insights gained from information about cyber threats gathered from a team spread across 22 countries, according to the post.
Beyond that, Mandiant tools will help Google Cloud customers monitor their assets for exposures and gauge the effectiveness of their cybersecurity controls, the post stated.
“With the addition of Mandiant to the Google Cloud family, we can now offer proven global expertise in comprehensive incident response, strategic readiness and technical assurance to help organizations mitigate threats and reduce business risk before, during and after an incident,” Kurian wrote in the post.
Mandiant announced March 8 that Google had a deal in place to acquire the firm.

Mandiant was founded in 2004 and has more than 600 cybersecurity consultants responding to thousands of cybersecurity breaches each year.
“Cybersecurity is a mission, and we believe it’s one of the most important of our generation,” Mandiant CEO Kevin Mandia said in a press release at the time. “Google Cloud shares our mission-driven culture to bring security to every organization.”
