Ryder Expands Mobile Maintenance Fleet Services With Pit Stop Acquisition

Ryder Acquires Pit Stop to Expand Mobile Maintenance Services

Ryder System plans to expand its retail mobile maintenance offering with an acquisition of Pit Stop Fleet Service.

The company entered into an agreement to acquire Pit Stop and expects to complete the transaction by Aug. 1, subject to customary closing conditions, Ryder said in a Monday (July 15) press release.

“With our complementary retail mobile maintenance fleet services across diverse industries and markets, we now have even greater economies of scale and offer unparalleled flexibility for fleets requiring swift maintenance services,” Tom Havens, president of fleet management solutions at Ryder, said in the release.

Ryder’s Torque by Ryder retail mobile maintenance offering was launched in the summer of 2023 and services commercial trucks, trailers, delivery vans, refrigerated vehicles, construction and utility vehicles, passenger and shuttle buses, and emergency response vehicles, according to the release.

With the acquisition of Pit Stop, which was founded in 1997 and offers retail mobile commercial fleet maintenance, Torque by Ryder will be available in 140 cities in 20 states, the release said. Ryder plans to expand its service into more states later this year.

Ryder will fully integrate Pit Stop employees, assets and operations, supported by Pit Stop co-founders Ron Perry and Connie Perry, per the release.

“In thinking about the future, I wanted to make sure our employees are in a company that will give them ample opportunities to grow, and our customers are in the best possible hands,” Ron Perry said in the release. “I believe Ryder is the ideal home for both.”

When Ryder launched Torque by Ryder in six states in July 2023, the company said the service would allow businesses and fleet owners to schedule, receive, track and pay for services via their desktop and mobile devices and have the services performed at their business location, with no long-term contracts.

The service sends a technician to the customer’s location to do the same work that the company offers in its Ryder shops, Jordan Wagner, vice president and general manager at Torque by Ryder, told PYMNTS in an interview posted in July 2023.

“So, preventive maintenance service — think oil change, federal DOTs, those kinds of things — we provide that through a 100% mobile solution where customers can self-schedule, they can set themselves up, they can track our vehicles, they can pay online,” Wagner said.
