Amazon always seems to be two steps ahead of its competitors. Even so, Amazon‘s competitors might be left scratching their heads when they see the eCommerce giant’s newest and perhaps boldest move yet.
Variety reported that Amazon is set to launch a live, shoppable fashion show called “Style Code Live” on Tuesday (March 8) night. The presentations will stream live on Amazon’s site every weeknight at 9 p.m. EST for 30 minutes each, with every item showcased by models also shown in an interactive (read: instantly buyable) gallery below the main viewing window. Terence Noonan, executive producer of “Style Code Live,” told Variety that viewers are in store for an experience they’ve never quite had before, and as Amazon’s first foray into live programming, he’s right on that front at least.
“’Style Code Live’ gives viewers a first-of-its-kind daily style and entertainment experience,” Noonan said. “We’re live, interactive and covering the latest trends in fashion and beauty each weeknight — with guest experts, celebrities and viewer tips. We are building a community and are super excited for our viewers to be part of it.”
Key to the “Style Code Live” experience will be the “show’s” three hosts: an MTV “TRL” host, a “Good Morning America” correspondent and a former “Big Brother” participant, who will not just emcee the fashion show but will also respond in real time to viewers’ questions.
“We can talk about what’s trending now, what’s happening in social media,” Munira Rahemtulla, head of “Style Code Live,” told Variety. “That way we’re able to create a community of people talking about fashion and beauty.”
If Amazon is able to pull its livestreaming social commerce ploy off, which will be more remarkable? That it did it at all, or that it did it with the help of a former reality TV star?
