Amazon Offers Same-Day Delivery From Local Retailers

Amazon has given Prime members in 10 United States metro areas the ability to shop at local retail stores using the company’s app and website and have their purchases delivered that day.

The cities involved in the program include Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Seattle and Washington D.C., according to a company blog post Monday (Aug. 1). Participating retailers include PacSun, GNC, SuperDry and Diesel. Other retailers are expected to join the service soon, including Sur La Table and 100% Pure.

In addition, some stores offer the option to make purchases online and pick up items in stores, a service that’s free for Prime members who spend $25 or more on qualifying items and $2.99 for members who spend less than $25, the post stated.

“By offering Same-Day Delivery, these retailers add to the hundreds of thousands of items already available to Amazon customers within hours of purchase,” according to the post. “The available items span dozens of categories, including everyday essentials, beauty, pets, toys, electronics and apparel.”

In late June, Amazon announced plans to capitalize on its growing stable of physical stores by selling data to brands that explain which products customers in its contactless locations touch, purchase and decline.

The company has said the offering gives brands a dashboard of anonymous detailed data showing “how their products are discovered, considered and purchased” at roughly 50 U.S. Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go locations using its contactless Just Walk Out and Dash Cart technology.

In addition, Amazon is offering advertisers greater insights into performance metrics, showing how effective their in-store promos and digital signage are at converting customers into buyers — either on the spot or at a later date online.
