An Apple engineer was reportedly fired last week after his daughter posted a video of the iPhone X before it was released, reported the Verge.
According to the news report, the engineer’s daughter, Brooke Amelia Peterson, visited Apple’s campus to see her father and recorded a video of the iPhone X. She then published a vblog that included the trip to Apple. That vblog was picked up by tech websites that cover Apple, and also made its way to YouTube, reported The Verge.
As a result of posting the vlog, Peterson claims her father was fired. In a video in which Peterson is reportedly crying, she said her father was fired for violating an Apple rule by letting her film the unreleased iPhone X at the company’s campus. Peterson was asked to remove the video by Apple, but by that time the content had already spread to other websites. The video reportedly included footage of an iPhone X that had QR codes used only by employees. A Notes app was also in the video, which reportedly showed codenames of products that Apple has yet to release.
The engineer fired by Apple had been an employee for around four years, reported The Verge. The report noted that Apple isn’t the only tech company to fire employees for violating these types of rules. Microsoft let an employee go after his son posted pictures of the Xbox 360 before it hit store shelves.
The firing comes as the iPhone X just went on sale for pre-orders, with initial reports showing strong demand for Apple’s newest device, which has a starting price of $999. On Friday, Bloomberg reported that the iPhone X sold out in Hong Kong in about a half hour, while in the U.S., consumers have to wait as long as six weeks to get the device shipped.
