Apple, the Cupertino, California iPhone maker, has identified issues that are negatively impacting some iPhone X smartphones and 13-inch MacBook Pro products, which the company said it will fix for free.
According to a report in Reuters citing Apple, the displays on the iPhone X may experience touch issues because of a component failure. Apple said it would replace the parts for free and that it affects only the original iPhone X. The iPhone X, which was launched in the fall of 2017, has an OLED display and a price tag that starts at $999. Since then the model has been upgraded by the iPhone XS and XR, which Apple rolled out in September.
According to Reuters, screens on the original iPhone X may not respond correctly to touch and could react even when the screen isn’t touched. Meanwhile, the 13-inch MacBook Pro computers could lose data due to a failure of the storage drive on some of the models. The MacBook Pros that are affected by the faulty drives will also be fixed for free. Apple, noted Reuters, said only a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives in units sold between June of 2017 and June of 2018 have the issue.
The new issues come on the heels of a huge battery replacement program instituted in 2017 after Apple admitted a software update that aided older iPhone with aging batteries slowed down the phone’s performance. That prompted inquiries by lawmakers and at least one lawsuit from an irate customer. Reuters noted that in June Apple said it would provide free keyboard replacements for some of its MacBook and MacBook Pro line of computers. The keyboards were being complained about on social media for being too noisy and for not working out of nowhere. Apple has revamped the keyboard design, making it quieter thanks to a layer of silicone underneath the keys, noted Reuters.
