Apple Fitness+ Swings Into Dance Offerings

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch-centered Apple Fitness+ ecosystem is getting some dance-related features, including “a new Dance Collection, a limited-edition award, and a special Artist Spotlight featuring hit songs and iconic moves from BTS videos,” Apple announced Thursday (April 21).

BTS is a K-pop sensation.

The Artist Spotlight sessions, which Apple already announced will include music by ABBA, BTS, and Queen, will get new Dance content beginning next week. The Artist Spotlight Dance workout will include music and choreography from BTS. Users will get access to a new “Get into a Groove with Dance” workout Collection, Apple said.

The Artist Spotlight features workout playlists focusing on individual artists. The new dance-themed lists, Apple stated in the announcement, will include “motivating, high-energy tracks from their entire catalogs, as well as collaborations and remixes to keep people moving outside of their Fitness+ workouts.”

Dance isn’t a new phenomenon to Apple Watch technology. The devices already can estimate calorie burns based on dance moves. The company stated this is possible due to “an algorithm that can capture accurate calorie exertion even with the unique challenges of measuring different body-to-arm motions typical with dance.”

Ben Allen, an Apple Fitness+ trainer, will provide special workouts featuring music and choreography from BTS videos, according to Apple. Tunes slated for the special treatment include: “Butter (feat. Megan Thee Stallion),” “Dynamite,” “Boy With Luv,” “DNA,” “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix),” “Permission to Dance” and “Life Goes On.”

Jhon Gonzalez, Apple stated, will offer tracks that based on rhythms from cumbia, tango, and Indian pop, among other genres.

Apple charges $9.99 per month, or $79.99 annually, for Fitness+.
