Last month saw predictions that ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology would soon be “in everything.”
That “everything” now apparently includes eyewear.
Innovative Eyewear, which makes smart glasses for brands such as Nautica and Eddie Bauer, announced Tuesday (April 11) that it has launched an app called Lucyd that enables a voice interface for ChatGPT on the company’s Lyte 2.0 eyewear collection.
“A great pair of smart glasses is defined by three key factors: fashion, tech, and suitability for all-day wear,” CEO Harrison Gross said in a news release.
“The Lyte 2.0 collection successfully addresses these factors and now provides access to the world’s most popular AI assistant.”
According to the release, users can ask questions to ChatGPT via microphones built into the glasses and hear the responses with their stereo speakers. The app is “device agnostic” and works with “many other hearables,” including Apple’s AirPods.
“Additionally, the app may be used via a streamlined visual interface on any smartphone to enhance accessibility,” the release said.
Other recent ChatGPT integrations include Expedia’s announcement last week that it was using the artificial intelligence technology to help people plan their trips.
“Expedia members can now start an open-ended conversation in the Expedia app and get recommendations on places to go, where to stay, how to get around, and what to see and do based on the chat,” the company said in a news release.
In addition, the offering also “brings in intelligent shopping by automatically saving hotels discussed in the conversation to a ‘trip’ in the app,” Expedia said.
Then there’s the recent partnership between ChatGPT creator OpenAI and Presto, the voice AI used by quick-service restaurants and fast-food chains including Applebee’s and McDonald’s.
In an interview with PYMNTS’ Karen Webster, Presto Interim CEO Krishna Gupta said that voice AI in the drive-thru sector “is evolving quickly” and offering restaurant chains suffering from labor shortages and typical drive-thru snags a better way to work.
Gupta believes that pairing Presto Voice — the company’s proprietary voice A — with ChatGPT, will increase order sizes, ease labor issues and improve customer experience.
“With OpenAI specifically and large language models in particular, our job is to integrate that into our existing product workflow and make things faster, more personalized, and provide capabilities that frankly weren’t there before,” he said. “All those things matter in the drive-thru.”
Gupta added the ChatGPT integration is also important because “as the voice becomes increasingly human-like, you can respond to edge cases, and you can do that more quickly because the speed of service matters so much to customers.”
