LoginID Launches WordPress Plugin With Passwordless Authentication

LoginID Launches WordPress Plugin

LoginID has launched a free WordPress plugin for its passwordless authentication solution, according to a press release emailed to PYMNTS.

The plugin makes it easier for WordPress-powered websites to authenticate their users with a regulatory-compliant biometric login that uses a public key cryptography to ensure a secure login, the release stated.

“In just five clicks,” according to the release, WordPress website creators can add the FIDO-certified passwordless login option to increase convenience and reduce friction, improving user experience on their sites. FIDO stands for Fast ID Online.

When authentication tools can provide greater security without increasing the consumer’s steps to access an account, merchants see higher rates of conversion on their websites, LoginID Co-Founder and CEO Simon Law told PYMNTS earlier this month.

“When you think of regulation, you may think it’s a cost — but here it’s actually a revenue generator, given friction around the transaction will now be lower,” said Law.

User information cannot be tracked through LoginID’s authentication tool, “ensuring a private experience on websites that integrate the LoginID WordPress plugin,” said Law in the release. “The plugin can be easily installed by any WordPress developer in minutes, making it the fastest way to add FIDO-certified strong authentication into websites.”

Payment and identity fraud have surged amid digital use adoption over the past decade, particularly in the last year amid a global pandemic that pushed consumers to stay at home and interact — with neighbors, shops, coworkers and just about everyone and everything else — online.

Passwords are a particular point of weakness for online users. Their static nature makes them vulnerable to fraudsters. The average consumer has 70 to 80 password combinations, and keeping track of all of them adds another hurdle facing convenience and security for both consumer and merchant.

LoginID’s plugin, which can be found in the WordPress Plugin Directory, also offers website operators help complying with regulations like GDPR and PSD2, the release stated.
