Monitise unveiled Monitise mPOS today, a white-label mobile payment service aimed at acquirers, banks and mobile operators.
Called a “complete mobile payment solution for businesses of all sizes,” the new service brings the company’s product offerings into a field already settled by Payleven and PayPal Here, among others, however, Monitise’s approach is different as retailers are not the primary target.
“While mobile is changing the payments market, mPOS is a fast-growing area within the payments ecosystem and financial institutions are ideally placed to capitalise on it,” Lee Cameron, the company’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement.
The announcement is timely, as Monitise cited recent data in the release that suggests the mPOS market is expected to soon be valued at more than $1.1 trillion annually.
