That’s the message we heard, anyway. It’s just that the business of digital money is busting out all over, and people clearly have expectations — we daresay demands — of the players in this field.

For these reasons, along with our own obsession with ranking things, PYMNTS’ latest Provider Ranking of Cryptocurrency Apps exists to make sense of it all, with scores and numbers.

We know. You’d be lost without us. Think nothing of it. Let’s check out the current action.

The Top Five

You know the three-way tie that’s dominated this ranking for months? Yes, that tie. It’s still there. Thus Binance, Coinbase and Crypto.com all take No. 1, each with a perfect score.

Fittingly Olympian, don’t you think?

Soon, however, begins a cascade of changeups that wasn’t foretold (though we had a feeling).

Rising two spots since last month, Blockchain Wallet moves into the No. 2 position.

Ignoring its name by not moving from No. 3 is the Voyager cryptocurrency app.

Not so with KuCoin, tumbling two spots from the last cycle to land at No. 4.

So, too, with the Gemini app, dropping three chart positions to take up No. 5 and closing out the top five. Way to hang in there, crypto apps.

The Top 10

On the upward swing, we’ve got the BlockFi app, levitating two chart positions to take No. 6.

Showing the contrasts possible, there’s another three-way tie, this time at No. 7. It starts with the BitMart app plunging five chart positions. Joining it at No. 7 is CEX.IO, which rises two spots to get there, where the battle is also joined by the Huobi app, and down a spot at that.

No. 8 goes to Kraken Pro, toppling three chart positions since the last cycle, but still in the top 10.

Coming in at No. 9, we’ve got the OKEx app, down two spots in what we’re now realizing is a fairly extensive jostling of positions in this latest Provider Ranking of Cryptocurrency Apps.

Because ties do not appear to be optional in this ranking, here’s one more.

Reentering the rankings at No. 10 is the Bitpay app (we were wondering when they would reappear), now sharing that space with a brand-new entrant, the Bittrex app.

We said at the start of this piece to expect “a cascade of changeups that wasn’t foretold.” Well, now you know. Did somebody say “spendable crypto” — or was that our imagination?
