London FinTech SumUp is partnering with Mastercard to drive credit card and electronic payment solutions for Ford commercial vehicles.
The solution gives small business owners — food trucks, beverage suppliers, mobile tradespeople — the ability to accept credit cards and other electronic payments directly from their Ford trucks using a feature in the FordPass Pro app.
“Our ambition has always been to support small businesses in their daily work and make it easier for them to get paid doing what they love. The new Marketplace feature within the FordPass Pro app embodies this approach, and we are pleased to be a part of it with our payment technology and wide range of services,” Alexander von Schirmeister, executive vice president Europe, SumUp, said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov. 25).
The new payment services will be available on Ford commercial vehicles in the U.K, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. With the ability to take card payments or contactless payments immediately, the solution gives entrepreneurs more control of their cash flow. It also gives customers the option to pay by debit or credit card, via contactless or by chip and pin.
“Now more than ever, small businesses are an indispensable part of our economy and a crucial part of our recovery moving forward,” said Jason Lane, executive vice president, market development Europe, Mastercard.
“Providing them [with] more options on how they want to make and receive payments can help them manage their cash flows and ultimately improve their bottom lines,” he added.
Mark Harvey, director of enterprise connectivity at Ford of Europe, said the collaboration with SumUp and Mastercard “is another example of how we are able to use our scale and buying power to help small businesses to thrive.”
SumUp and Mastercard teamed up in July to advance electronic payment acceptance locations across 27 European countries. The goal is to accelerate card acceptance at millions of micro, small and medium-sized companies (MSMBs) in Europe over the next five years.
In February, SumUp offered its first card for business payments in partnership with Mastercard. The new SumUp Card aims to help U.K. MSMBs make and take payments.
