DishTV India, which provides direct-to-home services, has launched a QR scan feature, a report from LiveMint says.
The feature is titled Scan QR and Pay, and it will be available for subscribers.
With the move, the company intends to keep on working on a digital-first strategy based on customers’ increasing preference for things like self-help options.
It was reported earlier that a more dire wave of COVID would potentially see a decline in cable services by around 15 to 20 percent. And reports say many customers have moved out of big-city metro areas and into more hometowns and villages as commercial spaces have had to remain shut down.
Subscribers to DishTV and D2H will be able to make payments by entering a registered phone number or customer ID to generate a QR code, then scanning it with a UPI app, which includes any UPI-enabled wallet or wallet apps employing UPI-enabled payment.
After that it falls to the subscribers to enter a security code to authorize the payments.
“The UPI is a secure, convenient, and simple mode of digital payment. We observed an increasing voice of the customer for hassle-free quick payment modes, and that is why we decided to implement a special QR Scan payment mechanism for our DishTV and D2H subscribers. This is yet another payment mechanism we have now, giving our customers a wide range of secure and easy payment options,” Anil Dua, executive director and group chief executive officer at Dish TV India Ltd, said in a statement.
The Indian government has rolled out eRupi, a digital prepaid voucher which has combined the rupee with the United Payments Interface (UPI).

In July, India’s UPI processed 3.24 billion transactions, which came out to a 15 percent increase from the previous month.
Experts have said the pandemic has increased the digital payments speed by around five to 10 years in India.
