The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is working with RuPay to advance the message of #FollowPaymentDistancing, which strives to encourage people to adopt safe and secure contactless payments during this extraordinary time in history.
“We believe that contactless is the present and future of payments. With this campaign, our purpose is to educate and encourage consumers for an upgrade in their card payment experience — an upgrade that spurs innovations in the timeliness, convenience, safety and security of contactless payments, be it in the online or physical environment,” NPCI COO Praveena Rai said in a press release on Friday (Aug. 13).

The premise of RuPay’s #FollowPaymentDistancing campaign is comprised of several online videos that highlight the importance of distancing when it comes to payments. The short films are intended to make people aware of the issue while also offering an approach that is presented in a “lightheartedly engaging manner,” according to the release.
Contactless payments give retailers an option to offer their customers a safe method of checking out. RuPay offers a tap and pay solution that means no customer has to physically hand over a credit or debit card to the merchant. Instead, the customer can merely tap a contactless RuPay card and pay without even entering a pin number.

RuPay users also can tap the autopay service, which is provided by certified financial institutions (FIs). RuPay cards are issued by over 1,100 FIs, including public, private, regional, rural and cooperative banks, according to the release.
Incorporated in 2008, NPCI is an umbrella organization for retail payments and settlement systems in India. It offers a full suite of payment product options, including RuPay card, Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and others.
