Business software giant Oracle has launched a payment cloud service for restaurants, letting eateries accept all major payment options, according to a Tuesday (June 28) press release.
The new product, called Oracle Food and Beverage Payment Cloud Service, lets restaurants take debit and credit cards, as well as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, the release stated.
Because the service is powered by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), “it has high security standards, end-to-end encryption,” and is compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), according to the release.
Oracle said in the release that restaurants are running out of time to become fully digital and meet the expectations of their customers.
As PYMNTS research has found, restaurant customers — particularly those of the grab-and-go variety — have embraced eateries that offer more technology.

For example, more than half of these diners said having QR codes in place of a physical menu has a positive impact on their dining experience. And 58% said that having more technology inside a restaurant leads to a better customer experience.
The launch of Oracle’s product comes one day after restaurant software provider Vivid launched its smart-device point-of-sale (POS) system, which integrates with a cloud-based platform and runs on both Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android operating systems.

The Vivid POS is aimed at small- to medium-sized restaurants “to serve customers exactly, where, when and how they want,” the company said. This can mean online, mobile, and table-side transactions.
“Our goal is to challenge the industry’s established players, and Vivid’s flexible solution empowers restaurants to start small and scale, and to select the best-of-breed solution components that ideally suit their business,” said Vivid Co-Founder and CEO Derek Henmi.
