Healthcare app GoodRx says it has a new way for users to stay on top of prescriptions.

The company on Thursday (July 27) released “Medicine Cabinet,” which lets people track prescriptions, get reminders about refills and when it’s time to take pills, and find lower prices. The goal is to help consumers keep up with their treatment and manage healthcare costs.

“It’s no secret that an important part of staying healthy is sticking to your prescribed treatment plan, but that’s often easier said than done,” GoodRx Chief Product Officer Mark Hull said in a news release.

“Tracking a variety of medicines and remembering when to take them is a real challenge. But for many Americans, it gets even harder juggling refills, navigating multiple pharmacies and managing costs.”

Features in Medicine Cabinet include a prescription dashboard that lets users manage all their medications in one platform. When consumers have a prescription filled using GoodRx, it automatically shows up on the platform.

It also includes daily medication and refill reminders, as well as recommendations for pharmacies that offer the best prices.

Streamlining any aspect of the healthcare process is important for consumers, PYMNTS research has found.

The Digital Platform Promise: How Patients Want to Streamline Healthcare Payments,” a PYMNTS and Lynx collaboration, found that 21% of consumers found the actual process of paying for healthcare difficult.

Another 18% said medical bills were confusing in ways that made efficient payment difficult, with 13% saying they couldn’t decipher the costs for specific services. And 9% of patients found inconsistencies between the costs outlined on medical bill statements and those detailed within their online patient portal.

By contrast, 48% of consumers who held an online account with a digital healthcare or wellness-related portal said that online channels improve at least one part of the payments and billing management experience.

“Notably, 29% said that digital portals make their experience more convenient, and 25% said that digital platforms make it easier to access account information,” PYMNTS wrote.

Earlier this month, GoodRx teamed with CVS Caremark on a program to help members pay lower out-of-pocket prices on generic medications at the pharmacy.

The new Caremark Cost Saver program provides automatic access to GoodRx’s prescription pricing for CVS Caremark’s eligible members, with the amount paid automatically applied to plan members’ deductible and out-of-pocket thresholds.
