Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered insurance company Lemonade on Wednesday (Nov. 3) launched Lemonade Car, an initiative rooted in social good that brings a tech-first approach to the crowded category, in the state of Illinois. The company also plans to offer it across the U.S. in the future, with Tennessee next on the list.
Lemonade Car helps safe and low-mileage drivers, as well as those who drive electric vehicles and hybrid cars, find better rates through telematics on the Lemonade app. The technology measures how safely people drive and offers around-the-clock, on-location roadside assistance, real-time crash detection and emergency vehicle dispatch.
Customers will also save hundreds of dollars when they bundle the service with Lemonade offerings for homes, apartments and other rental properties, pets and life insurance. Blender, Lemonade’s proprietary insurance operating system, automates many of the manual processes related to insurance claims.
“We stood up entire teams to handle tows, repairs, body shop services, as well as support for the 24/7 roadside assistance and emergency services we now offer,” said Shai Wininger, Lemonade’s CEO and co-founder, in the company announcement. “Providing a best-in-class car claims experience means being there for your customers 100% of the time, with surprisingly fast service and lots of empathy.”
The company vows to never invest in fossil fuels and polluting industries, and to incorporate incentives to reduce CO2 emissions. Lemonade Car will also fund reforestation to offset customers’ carbon emissions over time.
“We wanted to introduce a product that will not only reinvent how people buy car insurance, manage their policies and file claims, but also do something good for the planet,” said Wininger. “Since we can’t stop using cars just yet, we will help compensate for the CO2 emitted from our customers’ cars by financing reforestation on an ongoing basis.
“Using the telematics technology in our app, we’re able to estimate how much carbon dioxide is emitted by each ride, and plant trees accordingly,” he added.
