InComm Payments and Mastercard have partnered to launch MastercardGiftCard.com, a site for customers to purchase and send digital and physical Mastercard gift cards.
The website gives customers a “safe and secure” method for buying gift cards, especially prevalent amid the busy holiday season, according to InComm Payments’ press release.
In the digital option, gift cards will be instantly delivered via email to the recipient and can include personal messages. They can also be added to a mobile wallet, the first time Mastercard gift cards will be offered via mobile wallet.
“Gift cards have become especially convenient in the era of social distancing, as consumers can easily gift them or help out family and friends with the gift of choice,” said Stefan Happ, president of InComm Payments, in the release. “By adding the mobile wallet interface, we’re increasing recipients’ safety by facilitating touch-free redemptions.”
Using a digital wallet also gives the consumer added account protection, as the gift cards will be processed using wallet-based security and authentication systems.
Recipients of the cards can also activate Click to Pay at over 10,000 merchants.
“Today’s consumers continue to demand digitally motivated payments options – both in store and online – to meet their evolving needs,” said John Levitsky, executive vice president of account management at Mastercard, in the release, which is why they are offering “this multifaceted gift card experience.”
InComm Payments recently announced the acquisition of Todo Cartões, a gift card processor based in Brazil, as the payments platform looks to expand its gift card capability and reach in Brazil.
Gift cards have grown in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to PYMNTS research, as the cards can boost revenue at stores like restaurants with an immediate cash infusion. Their purchase also imbues the businesses with a bit of optimism, as it shows the customers will be back to use their prepaid cards.
