Everybody had an old-school uncle who was in the insurance business, a member of the “million-dollar club” bringing in fat commissions on those premiums. Remember that?
Well, forget it. These days we do it all in the digital domain. You respond to an offer, download an app and just like that — you’re insured. No three-martini lunches. Just pure productivity.
The latest update to PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Insurance Apps reflects both the stability and competition between these underwriters of risk.
This time around there’s a bit more shifting than we’re accustomed to, which is a sign of health and dynamism in an industry once dominated by men in lime-green golf slacks.
Thank our lucky stars, times have changed. So have the rankings (somewhat). Check it out.
The Top 5
Nope. They’re still tied at No. 1. We refer, of course, the natural curiosity about the tie at the top that goes on and on betwixt Geico and Progressive, which remains unchanged.
Almost the entirety of the Top 5 is unchanged. Keep that “almost” handy though.
Solid as the earth at No. 2 it’s State Farm.
Another tie now, this time for the No. 3 position, and still between those friendly combatants Allstate Mobile and USAA Mobile. How long will they circle each other like this? Such suspense.
Now summon that “almost” because we’ve got a change at No. 4 as Liberty Mutual Mobile rises one chart position. That’s quite exciting for these parts, but the next one is even bigger.
Entering the Top 5 at No. 5 for the first time in the big leagues it’s the Lemonade Insurance app, also up one spot in the process. Welcome. Yes, we serve lemonade (all 273 flavor variations).
The Top 10
Here among the hopefuls, we begin with the Jerry: Car Insurance app dropping one chart position out of the Top 5 to No. 6. So very close.
We now encounter another tied score, this time at No. 7, and pitting Cover — Insurance in a Snap (already holding this position) against Farmers Insurance Mobile rising one spot.
Carried aloft by market enthusiasm like an umbrella caught in a wind gust we’ve got the Travelers Mobile app flying up one chart position to No. 8.
Not so much rising a spot as falling one, Esurance Mobile checks out the view from No. 9.
Closing out this Provider Ranking of Insurance Apps it’s the Safeco Mobile app, playing it safe and sticking to the same chart position as last month.
Your old-school uncle in the golf cart with the polyester suit would approve, but in that withholding way that he elevated to an art form. You know how got around renewal time.
