Google may have shut down its shopping app earlier this year (redundancy don’t you know), but it makes no matter to PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Shopping Apps. Google still has its Shopping Tab, and we’ve got a constellation of shopping apps to cover. Apps never sleep.
As with the last few shopping app rankings, this one contains a series of surprises. We invite you to buy a comfy chair, a better laptop and perhaps even a new outfit (through your favorite shopping app, naturally) as we ride the rankings and see who’s making headlines this time.
The Top 5
The top three spots in any ranking tend toward category killers. It’s the law of the app jungle.
Unseated and stable at No. 1 is the SHEIN app, shining as it beats out much bigger players.
“What bigger players” you ask? Not to put too fine a point on it, but how about the Amazon shopping app — at No. 2 for another cycle. Puts the SHEIN achievement into perspective.
At No. 3 for another month its Walmart, having just announced its Walmart+ subscription program. Who knows how that might impact the rankings down the road?
Our No. 4 is China’s AliExpress app, tied last month at this score, but no more.
Closing out the Top 5 with style is Nike, as executives there remain bullish on the growth of the company’s digital and direct-to-consumer (D2C) business. Like their app, for one example.
The Top 10
The fire down below starts with a tie. This cycle it’s between eBay, up one spot and in a photo-finish with the Wish app which was already at No. 6. Incidentally, Wish is the face of Dutch firm ContextLogic Inc., just granted a payment services license by the Dutch Central Bank.
Tumbling three chart positions from last month is the Alibaba app now at No. 7. It’s one of several other eCommerce firms now seeking banking licenses to grow its financial offerings.
Fetch Rewards is solid at No. 8 for another cycle, evincing a big interest in loyalty of late.
At No. 9 it’s the Poshmark app, also not budging since last cycle. Surging demand for secondhand clothing resale is keeping them busy these days, as it is others.
Another unmoved app sits at No. 10, and it’s Swedish sensation IKEA which just entered the Provider Ranking of Shopping Apps last month and appears to be making itself at home.
We deserve a treat. Hand over that smartphone and stand back. We’re going shopping.
