A new Venmo redesign will boost privacy settings and make it so that payments can’t be seen by strangers, a Tuesday (July 20) news release from parent company PayPal said.
Per the release, as part of its update, Venmo is removing the global feed. Now, only the friends feed will be the only social feed for users. Customers can still choose from new privacy settings for friends-only or private in addition to a public option for their friend list.
In addition, customers can decide if they want their profiles to appear on their friends’ lists. The privacy settings will allow the option to stay hidden as well.
“The Venmo community has grown to more than 70 million customers, so this change allows customers to connect and share meaningful moments and experiences with the people who matter most,” the release said, noting that the payments app has “always been social at its core.”
The new design will also feature a new navigation method in the Venmo app, making it easier for customers to navigate between their social feed, Venmo products and their personal profiles.
They’ll be able to access a ‘Cards’ button. From there, users can manage their cards, rewards and offers.
The release also said that customers will be able to access crypto as well via a ‘Crypto’ button. Customers can view current trends on the app. The app will let users buy, sell or hold four different types of cryptocurrencies.
Users will also be able to access the entirety of their wallet, activity and settings from the personal feed. This includes the ability to check balances, view activity and transactions and track spending in the same place.
The ability to buy and sell and hold crypto is new to Venmo, PYMNTS reports from earlier in 2021, with the four available cryptos being bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.
There are also new in-app guides and videos to help those with common crypto questions.
