eCommerce Sales Rise In Spain Despite Crisis

Despite the financial crisis in Spain’s housing sector and the weakening of its banking sector, e-commerce seems to be on the rise according to predictions by eMarketer, and online digital intelligence and marketing firm. According to the source, ecommerce in Spain is projected to increase from $15.64 billion in 2011 to $18.57 billion in 2012, a growth of 18.8 percent. Spain’s e-commerce sector is immature as compared to the U.K., Germany, and France, but is expected to develop much faster with new payments and delivery methods, the source adds.

According to the Spanish Telecommunications commission (Comision del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones), travel and related services were the largest form of e-commerce sales. Additionally, with the growth of e-commerce, popular commercial brands such as Amazon and Apple, and IKEA have managed to gain a strong foothold in the Spanish market.
