Four Retailers Report 30% Web Sales Gains

The list of retailers reporting over-the-year gains in web sales of roughly 30% this week has increased to four.

Earlier this week, both Abercrombie & Fitch Co. and Nordstrom Inc. reported 30% gains for 2011. Now we can add Macy’s (40%) and Barnes & Noble (up 32% on a quarterly basis) to the list as well.

Macy’s reported a 39.6% over-the-year increase in online sales for 2011. The company did not disclose a dollar amount for full year sales, but did set a target for 2012 of more than $2 billion in revenues from the web, according to Internet Retailer. Overall, the company generated $26.4 billion in sales in 2011 across all channels.

Barnes & Noble was more specific about its performance, reporting $420 million in third quarter internet revenues, up 31.7% over the year. Through the first nine months of its fiscal year, web sales are up 28.7%, to $824.4 million.

Through three quarters, Barnes & Noble’s web revenues represent 14.3% of all sales, Internet Retailer says, a larger share than a year ago (11.4%).
