Caribbean, Latin American Banks See Cybercrime Boom

Attacks on online banking and infrastructure are on the rise in Latin American and Caribbean, according to a new Trend Micro report.

When asked to provide information regarding cybersecurity attacks, 20 out of the 32 responding nations reported increases of 8 percent to 40 percent in every measured category in 2012. In total, Trend Micro says it recorded 39 attacks in the region during the 12-month study period.

Secretary General of the OAS, Jose Miguel Insulza said in a release that the report would help Latin American and Caribbean countries “evaluate and effectively combat cyber threats” by providing “detailed and reliable threat information.”
