Russia Gets NFC Ticketing For Transportation Payments

The Russian mobile network operators MTS, MegaFon, Vimpelcom and Rostelecom have joined together to roll out a new NFC scheme for public transportation in the Russian city of Kazan, reported NFC World. The mobile ticketing service includes a new partnership with the Transport Card and GSM Association in Kazan.

    The NFC scheme will allow users to pay for metro and on-ground transportation with their mobile phones. In order to use the Mobile Ticket service, customers must buy the starter kit that includes a specific NFC SIM card.

    Marat Shakira, director of MTS, commented, “Payment of public transport with a mobile phone [is] a great example of how modern technology can improve the quality of life of citizens.”
