Barclays UK has announced the bank is now handling more than $6.52 billion in payments and transfers per month through its Pingit and mobile banking applications
This, however, is just the beginning as Barclays wants to see the mobile channel continue to woo the customer base, particularly as it is trying reduce the size of its branch network.
To promote this goal, Barclay’s is offering security tips and has announced its mobile banking and Pingit apps are to be awarded the new BSI (British Standards Institution) endorsement for secure digital transactions. This marks a first for applications in the British retail banking landscape.
Kaspersky Lab’s internet security products will be available to customers free of charge for all online and mobile banking enabled customers.
“These statistics demonstrate that smartphones are fast becoming the standard tool to browse, interact, shop and bank online. However, despite using them to access the same internet as traditional computers, many people do not think they require the same fully-fledged protection. Most people wouldn’t dream of doing their online banking on their laptop or PC without protection, so why wouldn’t the same apply when using your smartphone?” said principal security researcher at Kaspersky Lab David Emm, reports The Payments Journal.
