eBay Hit with Class Actions over Breach

After a security breach in February of this year, eBay now faces a class action suit in a U.S. federal court, says iT News. The consumer privacy suit was filed by Colin Green, a Louisiana state citizen, who “alleged that the security breach was the result of eBay’s inadequate security in regard to protecting information of its millions of customers.”

    The complaint further states that eBay’s failure to secure customer information “has caused, and is continuing to cause, damage to its customers, the putative class members herein.”

    During the breach, the fraudsters reportedly copied names, passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, and birth dates, at the very least, according to the lawsuit. The complaint also states that eBay did not immediately notify customers of the breach.

    Green asked for a jury trial. The combined claims of the proposed class members surpass $5 million.
