The mobile wallet platform launched by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon as ISIS has now chosen its new name: Softcard.
The move was positioned as a way to not be associated with the terrorist group that also branded itself ISIS. But it also provides an opportunity to choose a new brandname for the mobile wallet that has struggled.
CEO Michael Abbott is quoted in TechCrunch saying that Softcard was chosen because he “wanted a name and visual identity that had the power, flexibility and simplicity to define our category.”
Abbott added that wiping out a brandname the company has used for years is not necessarily going to be complete, at least not right away. “Because we’ve chosen to move swiftly, small traces of Isis will be visible for a short time.”
