Moneris Taps Razorfish For Digital Overhaul

Moneris Solutions, the payments processor based in Canada, said on Friday (Aug. 28) that it chose Razorfish to design and implement a strategy to create a digital platform to educate and move companies to adopt new payment methods.

The mandate for Razorfish, which operates as a part of Publicis Groupe, includes the redevelopment of Moneris.com, with an eye on consolidating several online properties into a single ecosystem. The company first approached Moneris in the middle of 2015.

Moneris has said it processes 3 billion transactions annually across more than 350,000 merchant locations and across credit, debit, wireless and online payment systems. The company also offers up electronic loyalty and stored-value gift cards.

As Moneris has noted in the past — in part through interviews with PYMNTS — the movement to EMV may spur adoption of new payments systems. But education remains key to grab merchants’ attention and get them to make the switch to updated, and safer, technology. Chris Lee, president of the company’s North American strategic partnerships and emerging markets, told PYMNTS in May that the there are several types of costs tied to lack of EMV adoption.

“First, there are costs directly associated with higher incidences of fraud … Consumers expect businesses to offer the best — and latest — methods of payment security, and merchants transitioning to EMV-enabled POS terminals will significantly enhance the security of their transactions,” said the executive. Later in the same interview, Lee stated that “merchants have a lot of control over how they can manage the customer experience … merchants can help ease the transition by taking a few basic steps, including training front-line employees, like cashiers and customer service team members, and enabling contactless readers … Customers will appreciate having more payment choices, including popular mobile payment options like Apple Pay.”
