Olo Now Helps Restaurants Deliver Food — At Scale

Digital ordering company Olo, which counts more than 150 restaurant brands across its customer base, has unveiled Dispatch, which lets restaurant operators deliver food at scale.

In a Thursday (Sept. 3) press release, Olo said that Dispatch can be used with the company’s digital commerce technology or as a standalone system that works in tandem with an existing order system tied to a particular client.

The company said that the existing platform is used by more than 14 million consumers, with orders being delivered or ready upon arrival through its Skip the Line service.

Dispatch will be available in wide release in the fourth quarter of this year and expands relationships with delivery service providers with real-time price quotes. For restaurant brands, there is the option to offer delivery at scale that is tied to POS technology and kitchen systems.

Through the service itself, and across a series of steps, a guest visits the restaurant’s website or mobile application, orders, pays and then can checkout. Upon selecting delivery, the consumer can then choose from among a series of delivery service providers (DSP), with delivery time and prices; then the customer can track the order from kitchen to delivery — tracking progress through maps in real time.

In a statement accompanying the release, Jon Hartis, senior director of information technology at Which Wich, a partner with Olo, said that “more and more customers are using delivery than ever before, and delivering a superior guest experience is our number one focus. We believe providing a delivery service that consolidates all the providers into one standardized service across our locations will allow us to provide a consistent brand experience.”
