Amazon and Stellantis have signed a deal to deliver software solutions for the Amsterdam-based car maker’s digital cabin platform, according to a press release on Thursday (Jan. 6).
Under the terms of the multi-year deal, the companies will launch STLA SmartCockpit by 2024, and collaborate to implement Amazon’s technology and software know-how across Stellantis, including vehicle development, building connected in-vehicle experiences and training the next generation of automotive software engineers.
This deal confirms the growing interest in the connected economy and how software and internet companies continue collaborating with manufacturers to make the internet of things a reality.

STLA SmartCockpit is the product of Mobile Drive, the joint venture between Stellantis and iPhone contract manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group. It is designed to use Amazon products to create brand- and vehicle-specific capabilities through an app store.
Stellantis said it integrates with customers’ digital lives to create personalized, intuitive in-vehicle experiences through AI-enhanced applications for entertainment, Alexa-enabled voice assistance, navigation, vehicle maintenance, eCommerce marketplaces and payment services.
Together, Amazon and Stellantis promised to develop software products and services that seamlessly integrate with customers’ digital lives and add value through routine software updates.
Stellantis said the deal, which involves Amazon Devices, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon Last Mile, will fuel the company’s shift to become sustainable.
“Amazon has built the technology, expertise, and culture of innovation to be a world leader in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning,” said Andrew Jassy, Amazon’s CEO, in a statement.” We’ve used these capabilities to make life better for customers around the world through products and services like Alexa, Kindle, and Fire TV — and with AWS, we’ve helped thousands of companies transform themselves and their industries.”
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said by leveraging artificial intelligence and cloud solutions, the companies will transform vehicles into personalized living spaces and enhance the overall customer experience, making them the most wanted, most captivating place to be, even when not driving.
