This week the technology market saw the launch of Windows 10 Pro, Microsoft’s latest operating system that came chock-full of new features for the enterprise. While the system has won praise already, Microsoft rival Apple is once again stealing the spotlight.
Reports published Thursday (July 30) featured the next iPhone, and the device will apparently include a slew of new features for the enterprise.
According to reports in The Week, IT departments are more and more encouraging employees to bring their personal smartphones to work, and that trend shines through in Apple’s next smartphone device — to be called either the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7.
Leaks of the new device’s design reveal the Force Touch feature, which can distinguish between light and heavier pressure on the touch screen. Reports said it was initially designed for the Apple Watch but is likely to allow business users to more efficiently complete their tasks on enterprise apps.
Analysts also say that Apple’s Passbook is likely to be replaced by Apple Wallet and house Apple Pay, allowing users to store both personal and company credit cards to easily switch between the two.
Reports also noted that Apple is said to be developing a new electronic SIM card, which analysts said could make it easier for business users to switch between their personal and professional networks and payment plans. It could be especially useful for corporate travelers that use their iPhone while abroad on business trips, allowing them to switch to their corporate plan to avoid roaming charges.
Additional features that will likely appear on the next iPhone include improved battery performance and new finger-gesture features, as well as a home button that can detect subtle movements of the finger for varying capabilities.
Apple has been working to launch new enterprise-focused apps and mobile services in recent months in efforts to increase the use of the iPhone and iPad in the workplace. With a more efficient processor and the next version of iOS, iOS 9, reports said the next iPhone is likely to meet the standards for heavy use in the workplace.
