How To Compare Apples To Oranges In Corporate Finance

In life, you can’t compare apples and oranges. But in business, sometimes you have to compare dollars to miles — or euros to oil barrels or bitcoin to units of raw material.

There is a complex array of symbols that businesses must keep track of in order to manage cash flow and finances. Yesterday (Feb. 1), FinServ company PayServices revealed it is now operating with a new portal to help corporations do just that.

The firm revealed that registration is now open for its suite of enterprise financial services tools that streamline symbol management. Companies can onboard into PayServices’ portal to help gauge the value of each of these symbols and ease friction in managing and exchanging them.

“PayServices was created to help streamline the interactions and management of the entire value chain,” the company said in its statement. “That chain includes all of the symbols of value that consumers and businesses use in their interactions with one another: the U.S. dollar, Euro and other traditional currencies, digital currencies such as ButterflyBits, DNotes and bitcoin, complementary currencies like air miles and reward points, inventory currencies like barrels of oil or bags of rice and even information currencies such as the data from surveys or opinion polls.”

The company added that its platform of solutions combines technology and services tools to integrate the management and valuation of all of these symbols, instead of forcing businesses to evaluate each group of symbols separately.

According to PayServices Vice President of Business Development Willy Danenberg, the solution is part of a broader initiative to get corporate and banking processes into modern times.

“From our work with organizations, banks and businesses, we know that the Internet, banking, treasury management and business all use tools and logic that are old and that were designed for reasons that don’t necessarily exist anymore,” the executive said in a statement. “We wanted and succeeded creating a system that changes and improves the way we individually and collectively interact and trade all symbols of value.”

The company’s announcement also included the news that PayServices struck a strategic partnership with DNotes and other digital currencies, allowing corporate clients to use these currencies more efficiently.
