The global commerce company Digital River announced on Wednesday (Sept. 8) that it has formed a partnership with Chargify, the billing/subscription management tool for B2B Software-as-a-Service (Saas) companies.
According to a company news release, the partnership will see Digital River’s technology integrated into the Chargify platform, letting Chargify customers manage payments, taxes and compliance requests.
“The result is a simplified, all-in-one eCommerce solution that enhances Chargify’s subscription capabilities while eliminating complexity and risk for their clients,” Digital River said.
Adam Coyle, CEO of the Minneapolis-based Digital River, said the partnership is an example of the growing number of B2B Saas firms using subscription models.
The partnership will also give Chargify customers an edge thanks to specialized B2B billing and data management tools, allowing them to convert subscribers with a localized, customized checkout experience, the companies said.
Chargify’s services include recurring billing, subscription management, revenue retention, prepaid subscriptions, revenue operations and events-based billing.
Digital River had been a full-stack eCommerce service company until 2019, when it morphed into a provider of flexible application programming interface (API) solutions, providing checkout functions. It has also begun to expand its options for buy now, pay later (BNPL) services.
“We are excited to partner with Digital River,” said Barrow Hamilton, chief product officer at Chargify. “Their focus on reducing customer churn combined with Chargify’s expertise in creating turnkey subscription models will create a unique offering, enabling our customers to both optimize and scale their B2B SaaS businesses worldwide.”

The partnership comes on the heels of some good news for Digital River, which reported late last month that it hit a new record in the number of clients introduced in the second quarter of the year, surpassing last year’s figures by 66%. Some of these clients included software company Ahrefs, commercial sports and fitness company Core Health and Fitness, and Felco, which manufactures precision cutting and pruning tools.
The company also recently announced a partnership with Avalara, a cloud-based business tax compliance automation platform. The partnership is designed to let businesses scale globally without having to worry about regional regulations or tax liabilities.
