BP has begun its rollout of a digital payments solution for fleets.
The energy company’s new BP In-Truck Connect is being launched in the United Kingdom with Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK and will later be rolled out more broadly, BP said in a Friday (June 30) press release.
“We are providing innovative, digital-first solutions to make our customers’ lives easier,” BP Vice President Fleet Europe Alexandru Eftimiu said in the release. “BP In-Truck Connect simplifies the refueling process and makes it efficient and easy for both drivers and managers, saving time and giving them greater clarity over their fuel purchases.”
The new BP In-Truck Connect is an app-based solution that allows drivers to refuel their trucks by confirming the fueling site through the app, unlocking the pump and refueling. The app logs the transaction and pays for the fuel, according to the press release.
The app also provides fleet managers with accurate information on fuel purchases, mileage and other data, so drivers don’t have to enter the data themselves, the release said.
“The BP In-Truck App will make a genuine contribution to reducing time and hassle for busy drivers and fleet managers — but it’s just one of many ways operators can make use of the systems already installed in their Mercedes-Benz trucks, to streamline many of the day-to-day processes involved in keeping their businesses working efficiently,” Mercedes-Benz Trucks Sales Director Stuart Jeggo said in the release.
PYMNTS research has found that as the number of connected vehicles on the road continues to grow, developers are producing tools that serve a variety of use cases for commercial drivers, fleet managers and consumers alike.
“[Connected cars] will also drive B2B and B2C businesses to aggressively invest in innovative connected vehicle technologies as well as market and consumer data that inevitably create new revenue streams,” Tatia Adams Fox, vice president and general manager of the Travel and Entertainment National Client Group at American Express, told PYMNTS when interviewed for “Reshaping Global Business With Connected Vehicles,” a PYMNTS and American Express collaboration.
In another development in this space, Car IQ and Verra Mobility partnered in December 2022 to provide Car IQ’s fleet customers with a complete toll payment suite that allows fleets to seamlessly connect with tolling solutions and pay without using a credit or debit card.
