Citi Opens Immersive Bank Branch at NYC Headquarters

Citi has rolled out a flagship branch at its global headquarters in New York City with new features to customize transactions and offer more specialized service, according to a press release.

“Our customers and the communities that we serve are at the heart of everything we do, and that’s why we’re so proud to open the doors to our new, reimagined flagship headquarters branch,” said Citi Head of the U.S. Consumer Bank Gonzalo Luchetti in the release. “Designed to provide customers with highly personalized service, our new Client Center brings the best of Citi as a global bank to the Tribeca community.”

Citi Head of U.S. Retail Banking Craig Vallorano said in the release that the headquarters will work on “shifting the mindset that branches are just a means to cash and deposit checks and be a go-to meeting space where you build deeper relationships with your bankers and interact with members of your community.”

The new center has modern ATMs, concierge bankers for simple transactions and professionals that can help with more complicated banking services, the release stated. There is also lounge seating, Wi-Fi, coffee and a library about Citi’s services.

In other news, Citi’s former CEO, Vikram Pandit, said this week that the biggest banks will likely be considering cryptocurrency in the near future.

He said every large bank or securities firm would “actively think about ‘shouldn’t I also be trading and selling cryptocurrency assets?’”

There are already signs that this is happening. Wall Street leaders who didn’t like bitcoin before are now looking into crypto recruits and promising big premiums. And big banks have introduced around 1,000 crypto-related jobs in the last three years, which is a change from four years ago when the digital assets were called “worthless” by J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon.
