Citibank announced Monday (Nov. 7) it launched its Touch ID Sensor authentication service in Hong Kong.
In a press release, Citibank said the service provides a full suite of mobile banking services to customers via its Citi Mobile App for the iOS platform. The service works by logging onto the mobile banking app on their iPhone using their fingerprint. It’s the latest addition to Citi’s biometrics authentication offering, following the launch of voice biometrics authentication in June, the company said. With the Touch ID Sensor function, customers can manage their mobile banking accounts by logging on with their fingerprints. In addition, Citi’s Touch ID Sensor authentication service is the first fingerprint authentication method in Hong Kong that supports stock trading on a mobile banking platform, Citibank said.
“After the successful launch of the city’s first voice biometrics authentication service in June, we are pleased to roll out Touch ID Sensor authentication, thus enabling our mobile banking users to access a full range of services at their fingertips,” said Angel Ng, country business manager of Citibank global consumer banking, in the press release. “Citibank’s commitment to innovation is reflected in our ongoing investment in technology development. We will continue to evolve our digital experiences to bring faster and simpler banking solutions to our clients and make their lives easier.”
In July of last year, Citi launched its mobile app in the U.S., which came equipped with fresh features based on customer feedback and changing behaviors. The Citi Mobile App enables the use of the Touch ID technology on iPhone devices and also integrates with Apple Watch in a more seamless way. “At Citi, we are always listening to our customers to learn how to improve their digital banking experiences,” said Citi Global Consumer Banking Head of Digital Melissa Stevens at the time. “Customers have asked for faster and easier access, mobile bill pay tools, credit card spend notifications and simpler app menus, and with the new Citi Mobile app, we’ve made major strides toward delivering those things and more.”
