Aiming to get drivers in car rentals more quickly, Hertz announced Tuesday (December 11) that it is teaming up with CLEAR to create Hertz Fast Lane powered by CLEAR, a new service that relies on biometrics to speed up the car rental process.
In a press release, Hertz and CLEAR said the goal is to get travelers through the exit gate and on the road in 30 second or less, which would be a time reduction of 75 percent or more. According to the companies, it’s the first time biometrics is being used by a leading car rental company and the first time CLEAR’s identity platform is enabling members to verify identities using their face instead of showing ID. Hertz said the Hertz Fast Lane powered by CLEAR is available at the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), with plans to roll out the service in more than 40 more Hertz locations throughout next year. Some of the locations include Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), among others.
“We’re excited to introduce Hertz Fast Lane Powered by CLEAR to get Hertz customers through the exit gate without the wait and on the road faster,” said Hertz CEO Kathryn V. Marinello in the press release. “By teaming with CLEAR, Hertz gets a partner with an expanding footprint and proven track record to help us innovate the car rental process, improve the customer experience and bring meaningful benefits to busy travelers.” The CEO noted that over the past two years Hertz has been upgrading its fleet to include cars people want to drive, launched its Ultimate Choice service that lets U.S. customers choose their preferred vehicle with no wait and has improved its site operations. The partnership with CLEAR demonstrates Hertz’s commitment to investing in technology, the company noted in the press release.
