DoorDash, the food delivery startup, announced Thursday (May 2) it has a new partnership with Wyndham Rewards to deliver food at hotels.
In a blog post, DoorDash said that under the partnership DoorDash customers can get delivery from local restaurants while they are traveling, with DoorDash available at more than 3,700 Wyndham hotels around the country. To kick off the new service, guests will get free delivery and receive 250 Wyndham Rewards points. Customers new to DoorDash will also get a $5 coupon, free delivery and up to 2,000 Wyndham Rewards points.
“We are thrilled to partner nationwide with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, our first partner within the travel and hospitality segment,” said DoorDash Head of Corporate Development Matt Rotella in an interview with VentureBeat. “This partnership extends our continued commitment to meeting our customers wherever they are, allowing them to have the same access to great restaurants and fantastic service while traveling.”
DoorDash is among the delivery startups that have been making a killing as consumers order food and groceries from their mobile devices. The market is sized at around $17 billion in the U.S. alone.
This isn’t the first partnership DoorDash has inked since its inception in 2013. It had a deal with 7-Eleven to deliver orders and last year inked a deal with Walmart in which the retailer is piloting delivery with DoorDash. Its successes haven’t been lost of investors who have been pouring money into the startup. As of February, it has a market valuation of $7.1 billion. It came on the heels of a $400 million fundraising round led by Temasek Holdings Pte., the Singapore state investment firm. At the time, The Wall Street Journal reported DoorDash is garnering a lot of attention from investors because it’s been able to grow faster than its rivals in the U.S. during the first half of last year and has maintained a market share of close to 18 percent.
