Dollar General and DoorDash on Thursday (Nov. 11) said they’re teaming up on on-demand delivery of household essentials, including food, snacks and cleaning supplies, the latest in a series of recent expansions for DoorDash.
“At Dollar General, we strive to make shopping hassle-free and affordable, and our partnership with DoorDash reiterates DG’s commitment to provide convenient and contactless options,” said Emily Taylor, Dollar General’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, in the joint announcement.
Dollar General customers can choose same-day delivery — less than an hour on average — through the company’s marketplace app or website without choosing a particular time slot or minimum order size for their delivery. On-demand delivery is available through DoorDash at more than 9,000 Dollar General stores, with plans to expand the offering to more than 10,000 outposts by December.
Dollar General and DoorDash piloted the initiative in the summer at about 600 stores.
“We are thrilled to partner with Dollar General to provide customers across the country with convenient access to the everyday essentials they need at the affordable price points they have come to trust,” said Tom Pickett, chief revenue officer at DoorDash. “With this partnership, we are proud to expand our services to areas that traditionally have not had access to same-day delivery.”

DoorDash recently debuted Nationwide Shipping, which delivers food and retail goods from local shops and restaurants to consumers across the U.S., with scheduled delivery several days later or at a set time. Goldbelly, which launched nationwide delivery in 2013, ships more than 10,000 foods from 850 restaurant partners, as of May 2021.
DoorDash wouldn’t say who its shipping partners are or address how it will overcome the worldwide supply chain snags that are holding up deliveries of all sorts for an undetermined amount of time.
