Cloud supply chain company Stord has begun rolling out a new last-mile delivery solution that chooses a carrier and service level that offers shippers the most efficient and cost-effective option to get a package where it needs to be by the expected delivery date.
Rather than relying on carriers’ delivery estimates, Stord Parcel uses both real-time data and historical data to determine the least-expensive service level that will get each package delivered on time, Stord said Wednesday (Nov. 16) in a press release.
“Today, most brands set up simple rules for service level selection based on standard carrier guidelines, which means they often opt for a more expensive service level to ensure on-time delivery,” Stord CEO and Co-founder Sean Henry said in the release. “With Stord Parcel, brand operators can feel confident that their parcel program is truly optimized based on real, historical performance data rather than broad guidelines.”
The company said in the release that customers have reduced their parcel delivery costs by 12% to 15% while retaining speed and quality.
Together with this capability, Stord offers direct-to-consumer (D2C) and omnichannel brands access to discounted rates from international, national and regional carriers, according to the release.
The company will be rolling out Stord Parcel in the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2023, with the product joining Stord’s suite of “port-to-porch” logistics and fulfillment offerings.
The launch of this product comes about four months after Stord unveiled Stord One Commerce, a vendor- and sales channel-agnostic software platform designed to help customers connect, orchestrate and optimize their supply chains.
The company said July 28 that Stord One Commerce gives B2B, B2C and omnichannel brands access to features such as deep order management and orchestration, inventory management and planning, business intelligence and analytics, in a single system.
