On-demand delivery app Waitr has launched a partnership with software logistics delivery provider Burq to drive expansion as Waitr grows from food-only into a broader “deliver anything” model, according to a Friday (July 8) press release.
Under the agreement, Waitr powered by ASAP, will start delivering from retailers in various sectors, including apparel, fashion, luxury, sporting goods and others, the release stated.

Tying up with Burq means Waitr can deliver goods from the variety of large retailers and small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that Burq works with, including alcohol and ethnic grocery stores carrying mainly specialty products not found in mainstream supermarkets, according to the release.
“Our vision is to provide same-day delivery of a wide range of items our customers need and want,” said Waitr CEO and Chairman of the Board Carl Grimstad in the release. “We believe this new partnership with Burq is another noteworthy step toward accomplishing our mission.”

Burq Co-Founder Salman Habib said in the release that Burq’s infrastructure is a complement to Waitr’s “vast driver base that is essential to meet the demands of on-demand customers.”

Headquartered in Lafayette, Louisiana, and founded in 2013 by Chairman Christopher Meaux, Waitr’s online ordering platform offers delivery, carryout and dine-in options, the release stated.
With Bite Squad and Delivery Dudes, Waitr connects local restaurants and grocery stores to diners in underserved U.S. markets, according to the release. As of March 31, the three together operate in approximately 1,000 cities across the U.S. Waitr also facilitates access to third parties that provide payment processing solutions for restaurants and other merchants.
