Online marketplace eBay is rolling out a limited-time mobile consignment concierge that will promote the selling experience offered by the recently launched eBay consignment service.
A branded bus called the Luxe Line will visit locations in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, offering people a physical place to consign their luxury accessories and shop for new ones, eBay said in a Tuesday (Dec. 12) press release.
“Our consignment service is designed to help remove the typical barriers to selling preowned items,” Tirath Kamdar, global general manager of luxury at eBay, said in the release. “The Luxe Line gives sellers and shoppers a way to test out our new service in real life with the same trusted experts that eBay works with for the online experience.”
Visitors to the Luxe Line can have their eligible designer handbags appraised, photographed, priced and listed on eBay on the seller’s behalf, according to the press release. Once the items are sold, the seller will receive the earnings.
Those who visit the branded bus can also shop luxury handbags, watches and jewelry from eBay sellers, the release said.
The eBay consignment service being promoted by the Luxe Line is designed to eliminate high commission fees and complicated listing processes that can keep people from selling their luxury goods on the platform, per the release.
“EBay’s entrance into the consignment space is the latest enhancement in its fashion category ensuring trust and quality in a seamless resale shopping experience,” the press release said. “From the expansion of eBay Authenticity Guarantee, to the acquisition of Certilogo, an AI-powered authentication provider, eBay continues to strengthen its end-to-end experience for sellers and buyers.”
EBay has set its sights on selling more luxury items in order to increase revenue, PYMNTS reported in April. To that end, the firm’s offerings include an authentication service for luxury handbags that includes a detailed physical inspection and the use of advanced technical equipment in a state-of-the-art facility.
The firm also offers a Certified by Brand program that entails a direct collaboration with luxury brands to expand their footprint in the secondary market. This aims to provide consumers with a broader range of luxury items while also ensuring authenticity.
