Save the Children Sweden has partnered with Airbnb.org to provide free housing to refugees fleeing Ukraine, the online home rental marketplace announced.
Dubbed “Safe Start,” the initiative brings together nonprofits and the Swedish business community to aid people fleeing Ukraine for Sweden, including facilitating temporary quarters.
There are an estimated 200,000 Ukrainian refugees that could arrive in Sweden through June and there is an urgent need for short-term housing.
Three weeks ago, Airbnb.org committed to offering free, short-term housing to up to 100,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine. Since then, more than 16,700 Europeans have registered to offer their homes to refugees for free or at a discount.
Anyone who wants to offer free or discounted accommodations to refugees can register at Airbnb.org/ASafeStart.
