Fundacíon Dondé has rolled out Western Union remittance services at 332 branch offices across Mexico.
The nonprofit private assistance institution’s partnership with Western Union now enables Mexican families to receive up to 50,000 Mexican pesos (about $3,000) per remittance, the organizations said in a Wednesday (June 28) press release.
“We are very pleased and proud to be able to integrate Western Union’s remittance services at our branches,” Fundacíon Dondé Deputy General Director of Operations Moisés González said in the release. “This strengthens us and, above all, benefits our customers by being able to receive the money that our people send mainly from [the] U.S., Ecuador and Colombia, at any of our locations.”
The cross-border remittance services enabled by this partnership allow customers of Fundacíon Dondé and Western Union to send and receive money in countries and territories in which Western Union operates, according to the release.
The services join the pawnbroker, banking and education resources offered by Fundacíon Dondé, the release said.
“Our expansion strategy is reinforced by including Fundacíon Dondé as a key and reliable partner for receiving remittances in Mexico,” Claudia Reyes Armebianchi, general manager of Western Union Mexico and Central America, said in the release. “By strengthening our network, we create development opportunities, close financial gaps and provide a superior experience for our customers.”
Western Union is currently pursuing an Evolve 2025 strategy that aims to bring high-value, accessible financial services to emerging populations around the globe.
During the quarter ended March 31, the company recorded 7% growth in the number of digital transactions.
The global remittance market grew by 5% in 2022, reaching a total of $626 billion, according to an estimate released by the World Bank late last year.
There have also been some shifts in the industry in recent months, with technology propelling cross-border solutions more fully into the digital age and some of the longtime players shifting to digital channels.
In other partnerships, Western Union has teamed up with MFS Africa to allow mobile money transfers across the continent, with 7-Eleven to enable money transfers at more than 1,800 stores in Mexico, and with Beforepay to combine lending and remittances in a “send now, pay later” service in Australia.
