Apple has rolled out a more personalized version of its App Store, which, according to TechCrunch, will now recommend “new products based on its understanding of the devices you already own.”
If you own an iPhone — which Apple is probably able to discern based on the devices you have linked to your Apple ID — then the App Store is probably going to suggest you buy a matching case for that phone.
The upgraded App Store will also let you see if the items you are interested in are in stock, alert you to an order that’s ready to pick up and there’s also an updated Account tab that lets you “configure your primary payment and shipping information, view your receipts, track your favorite products, plus check in on your orders and reservations,” according to TechCrunch.
When Bloomberg Technology first reported that these changes were in the works last month, it noted that they would mark a shift in the way that Apple typically uses data on its customers to make it more like how Amazon recommends products to you on its site based on your past history. Traditionally, Apple has tended to place the privacy concerns of its customers over such data mining initiatives.
If you’re not feeling this new feature, don’t worry, because Apple says you can disable it by visiting the My Devices section under Account Settings and turning the new feature off.
And TechCrunch reports that even more changes are coming to the App Store in the future, as Apple is planning to “take into account” apps that users have already purchased through the store, personalizing the experience even more so each user will not be shown the same apps that they have already purchased.
