Giant Food Adds EBT SNAP Payment Option To Online Orders

Giant Food will now accept EBT card payments for pickup and delivery orders placed online, the mid-Atlantic grocery chain announced today (July 15).

“Convenience and value are of great importance at Giant and as online grocery demand continues at an all-time high, we are excited to make shopping more accessible for our SNAP customers on Giantfood.com,” said Gregg Dorazio, director of eCommerce for Giant Food, in the press release.

“The rollout of online EBT payments further supports our mission to increase access to healthy food and support hunger relief efforts in the communities we serve, especially as food insecurity issues have been further exacerbated by the effects of the pandemic,” said Dorazio.

Eligible grocery and food items will show a “SNAP Eligible” label on their product details. For orders that include noneligible items, as well as for pickup and delivery fees, taxes and tips, customers will also need to use an alternative credit card, debit card or checking account.

Customers just add their EBT card to their account click the “Apply SNAP benefits” button at checkout and select the amount they want charged to their EBT card.

The release noted that Giant Food stores — found in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.— also accept EBT cards in-store and that customers can also order Giant Food’s grocery items from Instacart for rush delivery. Instacart first enabled EBT payments in 2020 and has since expanded to fifteen retailers across the country.

A slew of businesses has entered the fight against food insecurity, including Google, which recently launched its Find Food Site. The initiative helps users find local food banks, information about food stamp eligibility and educational tools for find additional food support opportunities. The site also aims to fight the stigma around food insecurity and encourage people in need to seek resources.
