ING DIRECT Australia, the online bank, announced on Wednesday (Aug. 24) it launched with Android Pay, enabling customers to use their phones to tap and pay for everyday items. In addition to enabling Android Pay, the online bank announced a partnership with AbilityMate in which it will donate $1 for every purchase made with ING DIRECT and Android Pay.
AbilityMate is a technology platform dedicated to making life-changing assistive devices available to all who need them. “Our Orange Everyday transaction account customers love mobile technology, and with Android Pay, they will be able to use the latest technology for their everyday purchases. It’s so simple and convenient that it has the potential to make a big difference to how we go about our daily lives,” said John Arnott, executive director of customers at ING DIRECT, in a press release that was picked up by the media. “We have teamed up with AbilityMate so that, while our customers are using technology to make their lives easier, they will, in turn, be contributing towards an amazing technology platform that can make a huge difference in the lives of those living with disabilities or mobility issues.”
According to ING DIRECT, among banks in Australia, it leads the pack with 51 percent of customers highly digitally engaged. Close to 70 percent of ING DIRECT customers who use the bank as their main financial institution use the ING DIRECT app to manage their money, so offering Android Pay is a natural extension.
“With such high digital engagement, we’re sure our customers will love the simplicity and convenience of this new way of paying,” said Arnott. “And through our partnership with AbilityMate, we’ve made it very simple; just changing the way our customers pay today can help to change a child’s future.”
