Chase Pay Now Accepted At Wakefern-Owned Grocery Stores

Chase announced Wednesday (Oct. 19) that Wakefern Food Corp. will accept Chase Pay as another way for customers to pay for groceries at ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer stores — supermarkets that are part of the Wakefern cooperative.

In a press release, Chase said Chase Pay is a digital payment solution that allows customers with Chase Visa consumer credit and debit cards to purchase items conveniently and securely while earning rewards and offers. Chase Pay uses token technology that makes payments more secure for customers and helps minimize risk to businesses.

“In a hyper-competitive industry, Wakefern has done an amazing job growing revenue and market share in the digital space and with brick-and-mortar stores,” said Jennifer Roberts, president of strategic alliances and loyalty solutions for Chase, in the press release. “We are pleased to work with Wakefern and deliver a seamless payment experience through Chase Pay for our mutual customers.”

The largest U.S. retailer-owned cooperative, Wakefern, is comprised of 50 member companies that individually own and operate 330 supermarkets along the East Coast. Wakefern will accept Chase Pay as a form of payment through ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer supermarket websites later this year. Chase Pay will be phased in next year at ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer store registers and through the ShopRite Mobile app. Wakefern joins a host of merchants to accept Chase Pay, which is live on select merchant websites. Chase Pay will launch for mobile payment at participating merchant registers and a form of payment in select merchant apps later this year.

In September, Chase announced it inked a multi-year agreement with electronics retailer Best Buy in which it will accept Chase Pay in its stores, on its website and on the Best Buy app. Best Buy is the latest merchant to sign up to accept Chase Pay.

Chase is the largest U.S. credit card issuer based on loans outstanding. Chase customers have more than 90 million consumer credit and debit card accounts, and nearly 24 million actively use the award-winning Chase mobile banking app.
