Self-service kiosk and point-of-sale (POS) terminal manufacturer NCR Corporation on Monday (Aug. 16) announced a $200,000 contribution to nonprofit Elevate Together™ as part of an effort to support restaurant recovery among Black and Hispanic communities.
NCR Foundation, a founding partner of Elevate Together, made the donation, which will fund cash grants to minority-owned businesses in the Atlanta area.
“We want to do what we can to support the restaurant industry as it finds its footing after a difficult year,” said Dirk Izzo, NCR Hospitality president and general manager. “We are honored to collaborate with Elevate Together and Round It Up America to support the hospitality industry.”
Elevate Together is powered by Round It Up America (RIUA), a nonprofit organization that gives participating businesses a way to let customers donate to charities. The NCR Aloha POS platform allows consumers to make donations through RIUA. Customers select “Round It Up” when paying their bill, and the total is instantly upped to the nearest dollar, with the difference going to the restaurant’s chosen charity. Since 2009, more than $5 million has been contributed to nonprofit organizations through the NCR system.
NCR, whose software is used in more than 100,000 restaurants, offers an all-in-one POS platform.
Monday’s announcement follows other recent efforts undertaken to bolster the struggling restaurant industry in the wake of the pandemic. As PYMNTS reported recently, celebrity chef Guy Fieri launched a prime-time special that provided more than $300,000 in grants to restaurant owners.
While an influx of financial help can spur restaurant recovery, fellow point of sale provider SpotOn told PYMNTS recently that the key to recovery is integrating a POS into everything the restaurant does. Among the highlights, the company noted a move toward omnichannel capabilities, accepting a multitude of digital payments, and an increased demand for services such as texting when a table is ready or offering options to order via QR code.
